Unfriendly Fire
How the gay ban undermines the military and weakens America

Blogging the Book Tour

It’s the eve of my first book tour, and I’m excited to blog as I go. I’ll intersperse news on the issue and book with personal reflections on my travels.

Fresh from my fabulous NYC launch party, I left Brooklyn yesterday to stop over at the old Philly homestead and put in some face time with my family–it was the world premiere of my cousin’s movie, “America,”produced by and starring Rosie O’Donnell on Lifetime–my cousin, E.R. Frank, wrote the book–about a multiracial foster child getting lost in the system.

Today I hopped back on Amtrak which got me safely through the “snow storm” to my DC hotel room in Dupont Circle. I’ve always loved Amtrak and am glad to know that a few bucks from the stimulus package are going to high-speed rail.

Monday is a big talk at Center for American Progress. Although Eric Alva, the heroic gay Marine who lost a leg for his country in Iraq will not be able to join me in Washington tomorrow (his flight from Texas was cancelled because of the “snow storm”), Rep. Ellen Tauscher of CA is still scheduled to share the stage with me Monday to discuss “don’t ask, don’t tell” at CAP. Then I’ll speak at a policy breakfast Tuesday hosted by the Raben Group–that’s the day you can find “Unfriendly Fire” on shelves! And on Wednesday I’m off to rainy LA. More to come…
