Going on the Daily Show was a blast! The show sent a car to take me and Peter to the studio on the far west side of Manhattan. We were led into the green room where we were offered drinks and snacks and I got to peek at the legendary gift bag (more on that later). A very small amount of makeup was all that was needed, since this time (unlike at Maddow), I had the chance to shave that morning.

Daily Show-bound!
Monday, March 9th, 2009
I’ve made it to NYC safe and sound on the red-eye. My San Diego talk on Saturday had drawn about 35 diverse people to the city’s warm and welcoming Gay and Lesbian Community Center where I spoke for about half an hour and led a spirited discussion for another hour. We had people of every age and background including a blind gay octogenarian vet who (more…)
LA Launch Party
Saturday, March 7th, 2009
My L.A. launch party high in the hills of West Hollywood was a smash–a warm and casual affair that brought together many of the most dedicated and hard-working advocates of repeal, including veterans, active duty troops, and various other supporters. There was live music and plenty to eat and drink, and my hosts, Tom and Art, spoke eloquently about the need to rid the nation of this delusionary (yes, it’s a word) and damaging policy. Tomorrow off to San Diego!
Enjoying Sunny LA
Friday, March 6th, 2009
I arrived in LA yesterday at noon and went to lunch outside. It had been rainy but the sun came out when I arrived (I’m just sayin’), and, though not reaching 70 degrees, it feels just as you’d want it to when visiting LA from NYC in late winter: sunny, warm and fragrant. I’m staying with friends in Santa Monica a block from the ocean and there’s a terrace with a water view where I can work and do radio interviews by phone.

Washington Book Launch a Success!
Monday, March 2nd, 2009
My kick-off talk today at Center for American Progress went great, and was attended by 130 people who braved the snow to hear me and Rep. Ellen Tauscher discuss “don’t ask, don’t tell.” The Congresswoman used the occasion to announce she’ll introduce legislation to lift the ban tomorrow, the pub date of “Unfriendly Fire.” I was first whisked to CNN to do an interview on “The Situation Room,” as Tauscher’s staff had leaked their intentions first thing in the morning. Unfortunately I was cut from today’s TV version, though it may end up on a later or a web version.
After my event, I posted this piece on Huffington Post.
Blogging the Book Tour
Sunday, March 1st, 2009
It’s the eve of my first book tour, and I’m excited to blog as I go. I’ll intersperse news on the issue and book with personal reflections on my travels.
Fresh from my fabulous NYC launch party, I left Brooklyn yesterday to stop over at the old Philly homestead and put in some face time with my family–it was the world premiere of my cousin’s movie, “America,” (more…)
